Gemila is The Driftweed Artist, a Broadstairs-based creative who turns found seaweed and seaside materials into stunning, one-of-a-kind artworks. This Behind the Brand session was all about documenting the quiet magic of her process and the calm, intentional way she connects with the natural world.
Gemila uses seaweed foraged from the Thanet coastline, along with driftwood, shells, and other ocean-tumbled treasures to create unique pieces. What begins as a walk along the shore ends in framed, organic compositions that feel part artwork, part meditation.
We photographed both in her Broadstairs home studio and along the coast where she collects her materials. The aim was to capture Gemila’s process – from walking the shore and selecting pieces, to pressing and arranging the seaweed with almost botanical precision.
